Democratic House-Based Future Forum Announced it's Expanded
Leadership Team
Future
Forum has announced its expanded leadership team for the 115th
Congress in January. The group elected Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-15) to
serve his second term as Chair and elected Reps. Stephanie Murphy
(FL-07), Seth Moulton (MA-06), and Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) to serve as
Vice-Chairs. In April 2015, Swalwell founded Future Forum to bring
together young House Democrats to focus attention on issues and
opportunities important to the millennial generation.
"Future
Forum has achieved a lot over the past two years, and I’d like to
thank my Future Forum colleagues for allowing me to continue leading
our effort to address the many issues that affect young people across
our nation," said Swalwell. "It is my mission in
Congress to fight for the right of every young American to have the
freedom to dream, regardless of where or how they grew up. Future
Forum has the unique opportunity to bring young people to the table
to work collaboratively and create a greater, more equal future for
us all."
"Young
Americans expect more from their leaders and are concerned about
opportunities that are disappearing for them and future generations,"
said Murphy, New Member Vice-Chair. "I represent a district in
central Florida that has more young people than anywhere else in
Florida - and it's rapidly growing - so I look forward to joining the
Future Forum leadership team as we work to engage younger Americans
on issues important to them. Listening will be key, and Future Forum
will serve as an effective conduit between Millennials and the U.S.
Congress."
"As
Democrats, one of our most important priorities should be listening
to hardworking Americans and, in particular, the next generation of
leaders," said Moulton, Policy Vice-Chair. "That’s
what we’ve done with Future Forum and over the past two years, we
have traveled across the country to hear from millennials about the
issues that impact them most, from student loan debt to climate
change. I’ve been proud to be a part of this initiative led by
Congressman Swalwell, and am honored to take on this new role."
"Now
more than ever, the voices of America’s young people deserve to be
heard here on Capitol Hill," said Gallego, Communications
Vice-Chair. "Future Forum plays a critical role in advocating
for policies like college affordability that will help to ensure that
the American Dream remains within reach for future generations of
Americans. I’m extremely proud to be a member of this
groundbreaking organization and I look forward to continuing to fight
for greater opportunities for our young people in the 115th
Congress."
Future
Forum is leading a national listening tour to engage with millennials
where they are: on college campuses, at start-ups, and at established
companies. Since its inception, Future Forum has visited 32 cities
and met with thousands of young people. Members of the group have
introduced legislation to address college affordability, student loan
debt, and millennial entrepreneurship, often inspired by ideas
generated through listening sessions.

Future Forum Mission:
#FutureForum, established
in 2015, is a group of young Democratic Members of Congress committed
to listening to and standing up for the next generation of
Americans. We care about the issues facing young Americans, like
student debt, college affordability, and declining millennial
entrepreneurship, because we ourselves are young Americans. Our
generation, now the largest living generation, is facing challenges
that we can’t afford to ignore.
#FutureForum believes it
is not enough to talk about millennials; Members of
Congress must listen to and engage with
millennials to solve these challenges. That’s why we’re traveling
across the nation to talk with young people where they are about
the issues that matter most to them, and take those lessons to
the Floor of the House of Representatives. From the crisis of
ever-increasing student loan debt to the decline of entrepreneurship
among millennials, these problems require an all-hands on
deck approach. #FutureForum is here to give millennials the
voice they need and deserve in their government.
