*** It's video day today, so make a plan to listen while you work or to set some time aside to watch because you will find two videos below that are well-worth the time! In the first instance, hear from Deputy AG Rosenstein, directly, and in the second instance, hear what Professor Snyder has to say about what we need to know about tyranny in the 20th Century.
Focused Video in 56:24 minutes
Rod Rosenstein was sworn in as the 37th
Deputy Attorney General of the United States
on April 26, 2017, by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Deputy Attorney General of the United States

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein recently discussed the rule of law...
& out of that discussion came a particular quote that was partially replayed on news programs throughout the day. You can read that quote in full, misheard in some small places, from the raw unofficial transcript here

At the 42:54 mark, "Laura from CNN" stood to ask a question:
"Thank you for doing this.
As you think about
the importance of separation of powers on the day,
any reaction on the news that certain members of the
house caucus have drafted articles of impeachment.
(Emphasis is mine.)
I saw that draft. I Don't know who wrote it. It illustrates the
important principle of the rule of law. We make mistakes.
That is not to say we are flawless, but the way we
operate is if we can accuse someone of wrongdoing, we
have to have admissible evidence, credible witnesses
and be able to prove, our case in court and fix our
signature to the charging documents. There is a lot talk
about pfizer applications -- fisa applications and many
people I see talking about it seem not to recognize what a
pfizer application is. It is like a search warrant.
In
order to get a fisa search warrant, you need an affidavit
signed by a career federal law enforcement agent. THAT
Is the way we operate and if it is wrong, that person is
going to face consequences are. IF Not, you can
face discipline or even prosecution. THAT Is the way we
operate.
WE Have people who are accountable.
I Just
don't have anything to say about documents like
that nobody has the courage to put their name on an
estate leakage that way,
but I can tell you there have been
people that have been making threats privately and publicly
against me for quite some time and I think they should
understand by now the department of justice is not going to
be extorted.
(Emphasis is mine.)
We are going to do what is required by
the rule of law and any kind of threats will not
affect the way we do our job. We have a
responsibility. WE TAKEN Both. -- we take an oath.
YOU
Raise your right hand and swearing of to defend
the united states -- swear in a an oath to defend
the united states from all enemies, foreign and domestic. THAT
Is your responsibility.everybody in
the department takes that osyath. IF THEY
Violate it, they know they will be held accountable. ... "

"Timothy Snyder: On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century
The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy.
Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike those faced by the Europeans of the 20th century, who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism.
Can we learn from their experience?
Timothy Snyder is the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna.
Dr. Snyder will be in conversation with Smita Narula, distinguished lecturer at Hunter College and interim director of the Human Rights Program at Roosevelt House ... " on tyranny.
