Network For #StrongerTogether ! NEW Today / Blog Guest Influencers Respond to: "Why do you Fight Trump so Hard in the 'Dog Days' of Summer?"

Focused Read in 3-4 minutes

Monday's Question of the Day:

"Why do you Fight Trump so Hard in the 'Dog Days' of Summer?"

I'll go first …

1.

I have always believed Democrats support America's values and principles around the idea of The Common Good via Compromise, per One Nation and Republicans don't. That difference compelled me to become a registered Democrat. Since November 2016 it has been abundantly clear that Trump will make Republican dreams of destroying One Nation in favor of 50 sovereign states come true and I am fighting against him for that very basic reason every single day, no matter the temptation of being in August-Vacation-Mode.

~ Unapologetic Democrat. Older than the average member of the House of Representatives. A Democratic Party activist, in and out of the party system, for about 30 years.

2.

Why am I fighting so hard against Trump’s position in the oval office? Before Trump took the election I was wondering what I would do to keep myself politically involved after Hillary won. I was in the mix at local democratic headquarters and talking, walking and attending events, so sure that the democracy that I believed in would be continuing and going in a hope-filled direction for the foreseeable future. Why worry?

I was following MSNBC, posting and reposting on social media because there were so many untruths being spread on so many levels. The comparisons were so unequal between Hillary’s “purported transgressions” and Trump’s “in your face, outrageous, unimaginable, uncivil actions”; I was in a state of alarm. I was talking, texting and meeting with dems and others, even going to a neighboring state to knock on doors for my candidate and theirs. I had hope that rational people would see through the idiocy and carry the day. Then the tsunami hit. I was in a state of shock, PTSD, trauma, disbelief and depression.
The Women’s March brought me back to terra firma, sanity. Just being surrounded by my people from the littlest babes to the octogenarians I knew I was not going to be fighting alone. Because I was going to fight, for my three granddaughters, my bi-racial great grand kids, my wonderful LGBT friends and women everywhere, every age, color, size, religion, class, culture and ethnicity.

I believe it will be the women who will bring us back to decency, civility and equality. We know how much there is to lose. For years we have marched, rallied, petitioned, voted, asked, cajoled, and pleaded for what’s right. We have history.
People asked me why I ‘m a democrat. I asked myself. I started to regularly attend my local Democratic City Committee. I became a delegate to the Mass Democratic State convention and I became familiar with the Democratic platform. I read it carefully, attended public sessions in discussion of it and was part of the process of voting on proposed revisions during the convention. I discovered that I believe in its tenants. They meet me where I live. Also the local and state democrats that were and are being elected are following those tenants. These tenants provide the directions that I want to go in for myself, my family, my neighbors, my community, state, nation and Mother Earth.
I will continue to fight against injustice, criminality, bullying, incivility, racism, corruption and ignorance with hope that change is possible, and with all of us together, we can make it happen. Doing a little or a lot and getting into action.

3.

We must work tirelessly to elect Democrats across this nation to stem the tide of regressive and dangerous Republican activism.

This right-wing coup is aimed at transferring wealth to the already wealthy and destroying the very fabric of our democracy and society in the process.

We're watching this in real time. Republicans have been actively working to destroy affordable and accessible healthcare in this country. 70,000,000 people depend on Medicaid, another 12,000,000 on ACA exchanges. Maybe you're one of them. These are people who are going to get sicker and some, many will die. Are these people just collateral damage to the Republican Party?

We can’t fight evil and injustice by allowing it to take over. I'm thinking historically, conquered people have a long, long horrible road back.

Is sitting out another election worth this future? Vouchers for Medicare; more attempts to repeal ACA and replace with the dangerous Trumpcare; more people jailed; more war on women and reproductive rights; more attacks on our students; our working families; our military and veterans; our seniors, minorities and immigrants. More decimation of our environment and public lands. More denial of science and complete inertia on climate and resource policy. No jobs policy, no infrastructure policy, no transportation policy. We are watching the privatization of America, the worship of the wealthy and corporate to the expense of the rest of us. Life and Death being played out for our fellow citizens while the republicans thrust theocracy and self-serving elitism down our throats. And now the cherry on top is watching the Republican Party in power use that power to provide protection and cover for massive corruption, criminal activities and treason.

We need to keep hammering home the point that we will not let the GOP corporatists and Treason Weasels take our way of life away from us. We need to #GOTV and take back the House and Senate in 2018.

~ Influencer. A proud and loud Democrat. Barely over the age of the average member of the House of Representatives. I’ve been actively working on making this a better world #ForAll through Democratic Party principles and activism since my kids were in diapers in the early ‘90’s.

4.

Myself and the Democrats on the local field team have continuously worked in grassroots organizing against the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress for multiple reasons.

We are against discrimination against POC, immigrants, LGBTQ, women, elderly, disabled, working families, and the poor.

We are against defunding Planned Parenthood, or any restrictions on birth control, or a woman’s right to choose an abortion if she needs one.

We are for sustainable energy practices - and we fight against pollution of air, water, and soil.

We need to overturn the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act - and restore the progressive tax brackets on large corporations, and the wealthy. We need to close tax loopholes for billionaires and Wall Street corporations.

We need to reverse Citizens United and get money out of politics - because corporations are not people.

We need to support Labor and the rights of Unions. We must raise the minimum wage and restore safe working conditions.

We have to correct any corruption of our voting system integrity across our nation, and stop the gerrymandering, and stop other GOP voter suppression tactics.

We need a free press, and restoration and enforcement of journalistic ethics.

We must shore up public education and healthcare and take good care of our veterans. College must be made affordable and free of discrimination. Pre-existing conditions must be banned as a practice for insurance companies to exponentially raise rates, or cancel your health insurance.

We need a good free public internet.

We need affordable housing.

We need to address and substantially lower the gun violence in our country.

These are some of the issues that cause me to work so hard as a Democratic Party Activist.

5.

He represents the worst of America - Fear, ignorance, self destructive loathing, racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and nihilism.

I value equal rights, equal opportunity, progress in representation - He values power and money at any cost.

Everyone and everything I love and care about is under attack by this regime and so I must fight back.

~ Influencer. Super Volunteer for Hillary Clinton and for electing more Democratic women and POC. Younger than the average member of the House of Representatives. A political activist since 1993.

6.

I’m advocating against Trump and Republicans because they support ideas and policies that I believe do not benefit the majority of Americans. In my opinion, they represent the wealthy and corporate interests. From immigration policy to environmental issues, Trump and Republicans are against the values that I hold dear. As I wrote in my blog posts for PDMFNB, the Republicans want to deregulate and privatize the institutions that were established to protect us and promote the general welfare. So, I stand in opposition to most everything that Trump and Republicans seek to install.

Among many other things,
former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was
noted to be the driving force behind the
creation of The Universal Declaration
of Human Rights.

"... By 1948, the United Nations’ new Human Rights Commission had captured the attention of the world. Under the dynamic chairmanship of Eleanor Roosevelt—President Franklin Roosevelt’s widow, a human rights champion in her own right and the United States delegate to the UN—the Commission set out to draft the document that became the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Roosevelt, credited with its inspiration, referred to the Declaration as the “international Magna Carta for all mankind.” It was adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948.

In its preamble and in Article 1, the Declaration unequivocally proclaims the inherent rights of all human beings: “Disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people....All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”

The Member States of the United Nations pledged to work together to promote the thirty Articles of human rights that, for the first time in history, had been assembled and codified into a single document. In consequence, many of these rights, in various forms, are today part of the constitutional laws of democratic nations. ... "

It’s a simple but powerful idea: We are stronger together."
