~ Personal Commentary

I've highlighted Speaker Pelosi in today's blog because, it has been my observation she has been treated quite unfairly since she committed to taking back the House majority following the 2016 presidential election, primarily by media. You can read that as talking heads, pundits and reporters, with no attention paid to her "resume." Now, with the spotlight on her -- it's time The People knew a little more about her.

Please see my top 3 favorite articles I've picked up on Twitter in recent weeks and a min-biographic video posted by Ohio Democrats, also on Twitter.

When we #Go2TheSource, we avoid misinformation, propaganda and disinformation!

Thank you,

(May 9, 2019) “Pelosi: Trump 'is almost self-impeaching because he is every day demonstrating more obstruction of justice'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said during a news conference Thursday that she believes President Donald Trump "is almost self-impeaching" and argued that "he is every day demonstrating more obstruction of justice and disrespect for Congress' legitimate role to subpoena."

The speaker's comments come amid an escalation of hostilities between congressional Democrats and the President one day after the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress.

Pelosi has argued in recent weeks that the President is effectively building a case on his own for impeachment by obstructing the work of Congress and has now started to use the term "self-impeach" to describe that. "... "

(September 26, 2019) "Nancy Pelosi: An Extremely Stable Genius

Before we begin to grapple with the gravity of the impeachment inquiry that is now upon us, can we acknowledge yet again the extreme weirdness of our times? ...

Into this reality has stepped, if belatedly, Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, Speaker of the House.

From the start, Pelosi has confronted Trump with a wry fearlessness.

When, in a moment of rare self-aggrandizement, Trump referred to himself as an “extremely stable genius,” she replied,

“When the ‘extremely stable genius’ starts acting more Presidential, I’ll be happy to work with him on infrastructure, trade, and other issues.”

In an Oval Office confrontation last year, she brooked no disrespect from Trump and asked that he please not underestimate “the strength that I bring to this meeting as the leader of the House Democrats.”

When, on another occasion, Trump referred to Pelosi as a “mess,” the Speaker thoughtfully suggested that the President might benefit from an “intervention for the good of the country."

For months, however, Pelosi avoided the ultimate intervention ...

Pelosi was reluctant, worried that there was not enough evidence to prevent a backfire scenario, in which Trump would emerge from impeachment still safely in office, emboldened, unchallenged by his own party, a martyr with an enhanced prospect at reΓ«lection.

“Remember this,” Pelosi told me, in an interview on Thursday afternoon, as she recalled the Watergate era. “I saw, as a young person, that the Republicans didn’t come around until the tapes.

It wasn’t like they were saying, ‘This behavior is not acceptable to us.’ The tapes were dispositive of the issue. There was no vote to impeach, because it was so clear that he had to go. But even Nixon knew of his responsibility to the country. I’m not sure this person does.” ... "

(September 27, 2019) "Speaker Nancy Pelosi Was Made for This Moment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s entire life has been in preparation for this moment: A confrontation with a bombastic president over allegations of corruption that could end his presidency or get him reelected.

The monumental showdown is as much a calculation about the politics of our time as a test of the laws and norms of the country — and politically, it's largely Pelosi's making.

The San Francisco Democrat spent much of the last two years spurning calls for impeachment from the liberal wing of her party, entertaining the prospect only when moderate members of her caucus revolted against President Trump this week following reports that he pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate a political rival.

"People have long misunderstood Nancy Pelosi...said Marc Sandalow, a former San Francisco Chronicle reporter and author of "Madame Speaker," a 2008 biography of Pelosi. "A lot of people assume that she’s just a knee-jerk liberal. She's not. She is a very talented backroom operational politico, and that's always been her skill."

... "It’s not a matter of her getting here —it’s when the caucus gets here," said her daughter, Christine Pelosi, a Democratic political strategist, referring to the growing consensus among House Democrats.

"She is always whipping or weaving," Pelosi said, a reference to her mother’s metaphor that the speaker’s job is to "weave" the differing threads of the Democratic Party and caucus into a coherent tapestry.

"And even when she’s not whipping a vote, she’s always counting," she added.

“And she has to make sure that people are ready to go when they're ready to go.

Because she's liberal. She knows the value of people being able to move out in front of her so they won't be able to say, 'Oh Nancy Pelosi pushed me into this.'

No. That person came first." ... "

"The fight to end Roe v. Wade enters its endgame next week

The Supreme Court could dismantle the constitutional right to an abortion, and all it has to do is sit on its hands.

The constitutional right to an abortion is almost certainly coming to an end —

the only question is how long the Supreme Court’s new majority will take to kill it off.

It’s not likely to be very long.

On October 1, the Supreme Court will meet to decide whether to hear a case that could leave little, if any, of this right standing.

For years, Justice Anthony Kennedy held the balance on a Supreme Court divided between four staunch opponents of this right and four supporters.

His replacement, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, looks ready to change that.

Just months after joining the Court, Kavanaugh wrote an opinion seeking to shrink abortion rights.

Nor is Chief Justice John Roberts, the closest thing this Court has to a swing vote, likely to vote in favor of abortion rights out of respect for precedent. ...

... The salient question today is not if the Supreme Court will gut what remains of its pro-abortion decision in Roe v. Wade. It is almost definitely when.

The decision undercutting abortion rights could come as soon as next week, though it is more likely that the Court will wait until next June, when they typically hand down their highest-profile decisions, to come for Roe.

But make no mistake, when the justices meet on October 1 for their first conference of the next term, the continued vitality of the abortion right is very much on the line. ... "

We’re building an inclusive, national membership of women who are connected, empowered, and taking action—from increasing their level of civic engagement and advocacy to voting in record numbers.

Organizing for America and the Democratic National Redistricting Committee have merged in "All On The Line":

"Barack Obama Throws All His Weight Behind ‘Issue Of Singular Importance’

The former president’s activist group Organizing for Action has folded into a fight to end gerrymandering."

On Thursday he announced that the progressive Organizing for Action group, which formed out of the pieces of Obama’s re-election campaign, would be folded into the National Democratic Redistricting Committee.

In a Medium post, Obama called gerrymandered maps “undemocratic” and “unrepresentative,” saying they have “too often stood in the way of change.”

... The merger will create a “joint force focused on this issue of singular importance,” Obama said, per The Atlantic. ... "
